Lauren Makarov

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lauren Makarov graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in Psychology, with a focus in Criminology. She worked in the domestic violence setting as both an advocate and a counselor. During her counseling, she facilitated support groups both in the shelter setting and the community at large. She conducted domestic violence trainings and seminars as part of community education and awareness. She was a guest speaker at the city of Jacskonville’s domestic violence rally, Take Back the Night, which featured prominent members of the community as well as the mayor.

Lauren has written numerous poems, several of which were published in anthologies and the University of North Florida’s campus publication. She won 2nd and 3rd places in a Florida state-wide writing contest. She plans on publishing a book of her poetry and a collection of several short fiction stories. She has several novellas in the making.

Lauren has had articles published in sports magazines. One article was a music interview on the band Concrete Blonde for a skateboarding magazine. The other articles were for a publication out of Morro Bay, California, called Surf Life for Women magazine. She has had the privilege of interviewing Australian pro-surfer Serena Brooke and also pro-surfer Bethany Hamilton of Hawaii. Lauren lives in St. Augustine Beach, Florida where she enjoys writing, surfing, and instructing yoga classes. She is currently working on completing her next writing project.
